According to research from the Afterschool Alliance, “Concern surrounding the ability to hire enough staff during the summer has continued to trend upwards, from 44 percent in the spring of 2021, to 57 percent in the summer of 2021, and now reaching a high of 66 percent” in 2022.

- Student capacity limitations: Without adequate staff, you may have to put some prospective students on waitlists or turn them away. This limits your impact in the community and can leave some kids without the vital programming they need to realize their potential.

For example, education students may be looking for volunteer opportunities to gain experience, making this a mutually beneficial arrangement.
